New Refig With Filter And The Ise Is Cloudy

Question:
I think that was some bad advice on several counts. First you need to check with the filter manufacture, many filters will not tolerate high temperatures. Secondly, the hot water entering the refrigerator could cause frost/ice build up inside the refrigerator, and it is causing the unit to work harder.

Answer:
Cloudiness in ice is caused by air bubbles. Hot water holds less dissolved air than cold water, hence will in theory make less cloudy ice. The hot water should be perfectly safe as modern hot water tanks are lined with glass so contamination is not a problem. It does seem rather energy-inefficient, however. How new is the fridge? sometimes it takes a week or two for all the air to get settled out of the system. Yes some filters are not made for hot water, although I'm sure the water is at room temp by the time the icemaker asks for the next cycle as the water has been sitting in the tube for several hours. I've used several different in line filters and never had crystal clear ice, although some do work better than others.
