New Refig With Filter And The Ise Is Cloudy
What to do for cloudy ice. I have connected the supply to the hot water line as a plumber suggested. The water is filtered. What causes this? The water?
Answer:
I think that was some bad advice on several counts. First you need to check with the filter manufacture, many filters will not tolerate high temperatures. Secondly, the hot water entering the refrigerator could cause frost/ice build up inside the refrigerator, and it is causing the unit to work harder. How new is the fridge? sometimes it takes a week or two for all the air to get settled out of the system. Yes some filters are not made for hot water, although I'm sure the water is at room temp by the time the icemaker asks for the next cycle as the water has been sitting in the tube for several hours. I've used several different in line filters and never had crystal clear ice, although some do work better than others. Most of the advice I've seen on this is correct, but one item has not been mentioned. The filter is new and when you first put them in, you get more air bubbles than usual..This may be part of the problem. As for the hot water, I'd rather not use it for cooking. Yes, the separate heaters are glass lined and the tiny bit of water used on every charge of the ice maker is cooled sitting in the tubing before the water gets to the fridge. With some of the oil fired furnaces, I think it is still a cast iron tank. I know my hot water tastes worse than my already foul tasting cold water. I use a charcoal filter for drinking and ice.
