Air Conditioning Ductwork For Window Units
I am needing a new 8000 or 9000 btu window unit to cool a room adjoining a basement area and ideally I would like to mount it in a basement window. This will involve ductwork of some kind and the main challenge seems to be fashioning a collar of some sort to the intake and exhaust of the window unit, while still allowing access to the air filter. Does any manufacturer of window units sell a custom fit duct kit with this in mind?
Answer:
Window air units are not designed to have ductwork attached. This would cause quite a few problems and would lead to early failure of the unit. the best solution is to have a ductless split system installed for this room. this only needs refrigerant tubing run to the wall mounted air handler. This is true I didn't say he could install it himself. it does require licensing in hvac and refrigerant handling to install these.
