Central Air Conditioning Water Leak

Question:
I have central air conditioning in my house and recently the furnace (The part that sits in the garage and where the filter is) has started leaking. The water appears to be coming from a hole on the bottom of the furnace. I assume this is a emergency water outlet of some sort. When I first noticed the problem I checked the filter and it was filthy (oops). I cleaned the filter and turned off the AC for about eight hours (I thought something might have frozen up). After turning the AC back on, it started leaking again. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? Is something frozen up but I just need to give it more time to thaw?

Answer:
I recently had the same thing happen to my A/C. Below the cooling unit ( called the A-coil by the service guys) was a plastic pan to collect condensation water. Accessed by removing sheet metal surrounding the cooling unit. Apparently the pan can be metal on some units and will rust out. The plastic pan had a drain outlet connected to PVC pipe which ran to outside. The PVC pipe in my case was clogged up by mold right next to the pan. I could also see that if the filter was coarse or was being bypassed that the lint would collect in the condensation and also could cause clogs. My suggestion would be to check for a clogged drain pipe first and secondly a broken drain pan. I agree about the clogged drain. If the normal drain path gets clogged, the water has to take another path. I had my drain pipe stop up and had to cut it off. It ended up leaking on the blower motor and burning it out. I replaced the drain pipe with a clear hose. Now, every year I shop-vac the hose end so that anything starting to clog the pipe will get sucked through
