Central Air Problems

Question:
We are having problems with our central air conditioning system. It seems to be spewing out neutral (as opposed to cold or hot) air and is therefore not cooling the house down. Could the fact that my husband keeps turning it on and off several times a day have anything to do with it? It worked fine until recently.

Answer:
Always check your air filter before calling the service man....it's a shame to wait for them and get a bill to clean or replace a dirty filter.... hope this helps. An air conditioner is actually a whole-house dehumidifier. And a muggy 73 degrees can be very uncomfortable, and a dry 80 degrees can be uncomfortably cold with a ceiling fan over you at night. With that in mind, I put a humidity sensor in series with the thermostat. Wired to 'make' on humidity rise, rather than fall. Now my wife doesn't wake up with dry eyes or throat, I don't see those awful electric bills. Did the same for my mother. She swears by it, even if it was her son that did it. :-} And now, when I come in from outside, all sweaty, and it seems like the A/C would be nice to be on, I simply breathe a couple of times on the sensor. It clicks on, A/C runs for about 20 minutes, and by that time I'm comfortable. When the bathroom door gets opened after a shower, the A/C comes on within the minute, because the sensor and T-stat are in the hallway. Not nearly the moisture buildup in the bathroom anymore. Am I sounding like a salesman? I don't even work in the HVAC business. Hope this helps others with knobtwisters. Need to never kick the A/C back on for at least 5 minutes after it has cut off. I suspect that doesn't apply to the scroll units. Hope someone will clarify this if I'm wrong.
