Cloudy Ice From Ice Maker

Question:
Just bought a Kenmore refreg. with ice maker. This new model (58585890) has the fancy filter for the water but the ice it makes is cloudy! I have flushed the new lines and discarded over 8 batches of ice and its still cloudy! Is the ANOTHER kind of filter that can produce clear ice that can be added or is it the way the ice is frozen?

Answer:
I think it's just the way the ice freezes. The cloudiness is caused by tiny pockets of dissolved air. If you let the water sit for a while before it was frozen it might clear up, but with an icemaker that really isn't an option. Actually the air that is suspended in the ice can/will cause cloudy ness. To get clear ice,it needs movement, ever so little. Icicle's are clear, because of movement, water dripping. Commercial ice makers usually make clear ice, because of the movement while freezing. Cube's in a tray are always cloudy. RO use is NOT recommend by most manufactures.. Make sure you check with the manufacture of your unit...The problem can be two fold. First is a pressure problem, you must have at least 20 psi of constant pressure at the fill valve. The other is water purity. This can cause leaching from the ice maker mold materials...
