Copper -vs- Flex Tubing
Just bought a new fridge with an ice-maker. The manual says use copper tubing to plumb the water to the fridge. Would there be a problem using flexible tubing in its place? Thanks for any help you can give.
Answer:
You MUST realize you CANNOT compair the feed line (unpressurized) with the supply line (pressurized all the time 24-7....By the way, GE and MAYTAG had major problems with thier feed lines ruptureing due to the heat from the compressor area. Thanks for sharing, unfortunately I see and hear of this so much it amazes me the lines are still selling... The good news is the word is getting out about vinyl dryer ducting. Many stores in our area are no longer selling the product..... I gutted and re-did my kitchen earlier this year and obviously had to disconnect my fridge which included the old copper coil pipe for the water/ice maker. I replaced it with clear plastic, flexible hose and have no complaints. It's much easier to manage when you have to move the unit. Just make sure you don't run it over with the fridge. You might want to run it around a hook on the wall to suspend it. Just make sure you leave as much slack as possible to move the fridge away from the wall.
