Dryer Vent
I've got an in-machine lint screen, but I've found a *lot* of lint in my dryer vent just outside the house. Why does this happen? What's the easiest way to clean it regularly? Pulling the hose out of the wall twice a year or what?
Answer:
It would seem that much of a dryers inefficiency occurs when the lint screen fills up ans slows the air flow. I've made the suggestion to remove the lint screen but, wife veto's the idea. It's normal, every dryer expels lint into itself and the venting. The problem can be much worst on the Whirlpool manufactured dryer. Many people pull the lint screen out while the unit is running, this will only allow more lint to come off the filter and into the venting. Having read your original problem and subsequent suggestions, I would like to invite all of you to visit our website and learn more about proper clothes dryer venting. We are Builder's Best, Inc. We manufacture all-metal dryer venting pipe, elbows, fittings and other accessories. The proper wall vent and hood does not use a screen to keep out birds and other pests. A hinged flap inside the hood closes by gravity and opens under the force of dryer vent air. Finding some lint in the pipe and outside the wall vent is normal... and in some ways a good thing. Lint that escapes the filter in the dryer could collect in the vent piping and cause major problems (like house fires), but by blowing these small pieces outside, they are not accumulating.
