Answer:
By the power vested in me by the Nevada Gaming Commission, I hereby absolve you of any lingering negativity imperfect metaprogramming has left you with. You got in there and got dirty and gave it your best, and that rates a hearty "Fuckin' A!" Yes, if all your power is out then all the breakers would be tripped - or at least the main breaker/fuse close to the power meter. Sounds like a power company problem. That loud noise was probably a fuse or transformer on their side of the service wire. As for your heater, yes 1995 could well be an electronic ignition model. We'll worry with that after your power is back on. And no, you probably didn't cause the power to go out. It's scary as hell right now, when you don't know what on earth is wrong and whether it's due to your actions. But you're tackling it, you're using your ingenuity to figure your way through it, and you've had some clear successes in the process. Any chance (no joke meant) there was a lightning strike? My heat pump was hit by lightning once, and the repair tech said he'd never seen anything like it. It dented and partly melted the small iron or steel tank inside the unit, and fried all the cables to gooey hell.
