Ford Focus Air Conditioning Repair Diagrams?
I'm looking for a step by step diagram on how to replace an evaporator in the air conditioning in a 2000 Ford Focus? Does anyone know where I could find such an item? I'm trying to find if the connections are bolt or crimp style. Only serious answers please
Answer:
The reason you want to change the evaporator yourself, is because your mechanic told you how expensive it would be to replace it. In the first place, if there is still refrigerant in the system, it needs to be evacuated. You also must be certified to handle refrigerant. If you were to open the system while it was still pressurized, it can be dangerous. Secondly, many of todays vehicles require complete removal of the instrument panel (dashboard) to enable you to remove the entire HVAC box. (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning). Once the box is removed, you can then disassemble the box and replace the evaporator. Thirdly, any time an A/C system has been open to atmosphere, the accumulator/receiver-dryer must be replaced. There are also steps that must be taken to ensure that the correct amount of the proper refrigerant oil is maintained in the system. This is not a job for a Do-It-Yourselfer. Even experienced mechanics cringe at these jobs. Bite the bullet, go back to your mechanic and have the job done right. Or, you can roll the windows down and drive fast.
