How Do I Repair A Gash In An AC (air Conditioning) Junction Box In My Attic?
Hello- In my attic, I have a junction box w/ a few AC ducts branching from it. I discovered a 6" straight gash on top of the junction box which is allowing cool air to escape into the attic. How should I properly fix this? Is it as simple as patching it w/ duct tape or should I do / use something else?
Answer:
1.) Don't use 'Duct' tape. Its good for almost everything else except heating ducts(runs). The constant heating and cooling of the duct causes most sticky tapes to fall off within 12 months. Their is an aluminum tape made specificlly for the heating & cooling business for use on metal duct work.. Try the 'Big Box' stores or a heating contractor for a roll. There is a very sticky tape that has aluminum backing and gooey junk on the face. It works very well and lasts for years. Ask for it at a lumber yard or hardware store. Duct tape will work in a pinch but won't last as long.
