What Is Causing Air Conditioning Unit To Blow Out Warm Air And Make A Loud Humming Noise?
I am hoping that we can avoid the expense of a service repair person. The filters are changed monthly. The air will come in absolutely freezing cold. Then it shuts down and blows in very warm air for hours. We shut it down for about an hour, then when we restarted it, it blew in hot warm air making a loud humming. The humming stopped, then very cold hair started to come in for about half an hour. I am wondering is this something that we can correct ourselves.
Answer:
Probably the compressor could be the condenser fan motor, however unless your familiar at discharging electrical devises especially a motor capacitor I would call someone in to test, give diagnostic and quote cost of repair, Try to have a look at the outdoor unit when it stops cooling and see what's running and what's not.Might be the outdoor fan motor.Might be the compressor.Might be a pitted contactor or one with ants in it.Have a close look and find out where the noise is coming from. You mentioned we.If it's the fan motor, shut the power off, write down how the motor is wired, discharge the capacitor, remove it,look in the yellow pages for a/c suppliers, look at the motor specs, and see if you can find the motor, buy it with a new capacitor, and install it.It's not challenging. All you need is a couple of tools.Good luck. If all else fails, call for sevice now before you run into paying for overtime. It's getting close to that time. I think your outside fan motor might be going bad best to call for service ask somebody you know if they have a good person!
