Air Conditioner Repair Recommendation Wanted

Question:
My air conditioner (Carrier) broke last Friday, after only 4 years of service. The air conditioner in my car lasted longer than that, despite it got frequent shakings, sometime violently. So, I am looking for a repairman or repairshop that can fix it and get it to last at least as long as a Japanese car's air conditioner does. All recommendations are appreciated.

Answer:
I've had good luck with ARS/Osgood. Better luck than I had with a service company named like a small mammal that makes a big deal out of being locally-owned. I'll spare the story. Installed 4 years ago? It should still be under warranty. Contact the installer. If it was part of a new home contact the builder and find out who they contracted the work to and contact that company. Just hope it isn't Big Tex. When I bought my home it was in similar shape. A Carrier unit gone after 4 years. I demanded that it be fixed in my offer for the home, and was shown the receipt that it was fixed. Well, the dumbasses changed the condenser on the upstairs unit, not the downstairs unit. I also found a vent completely off of the air exchange box (which is probably what caused the condenser to go bad in the first place) and another return air duct about 75% collapsed. Both of these had been since installation. The previous owner could never cool the house below 85 or so in the summers. Well, 2 condensers, some fixed air lines, a new control computer, and a new blower motor/cap and the damn thing finally works like it should. This is in no way meant to reflect the quality of work done by big tex. I found and fixed all of these items myself. I am an EE by trade, not an AC pro. Those bozos (big tex) must be hired at the day labor center. My AC finally works. It took some education on my part to learn the systems (electronically they are really simple) and I also made a friend who is an AC pro to handle the actual pressure/freon type repairs. Learn it yourself even if you don't do the work. This is your only protection against shady/incompetent AC professionals.
