Recharging A 1993 Camry Air Conditioner

Question:
My air conditioner on my 1993 Camry LE started becoming warm this summer. I took it to the Toyota dealer and they told me I had a condenser leak. The service rep quoted me $700 to repair the air conditioner. This seems very expensive. Isn't there some sort of stop leak that can be used to seal leaks? Is recharging the AC a difficult job? I've seen recharge kits at Auto Zone for $70.

Answer:
A/C jobs are always expensive. Auto, home whatever. Those kits recharge the gas but do not fix leaks - The price is high because there is a particular process they must go through when dealing with A/C repairs, in your case you lost your fluid through the leak in the condenser. I doubt there is an easy way out of this. I'd say to recharge with a autozone kits.I recharged my 92 camry v6 3 years ago with the kits I bought from Walmart at $35.-,which contains sealing materials(forgot what exact says,u can check their website).Mine air container was leaking and refilled by shop every year and they charged me $150 around. They used dyes to figure out where was leaking, but did not work. What I did 3 years ago was I just connnected the kits to the lower port,if I'm right, the one closed to firewall on passenger side and refilled less than 2 cans R134a. So far,it's been 3 years, it works perfect, very chilli and never recharged. you can google R134a to find some info. Good luck!
