Garage Door Opener
I have a chain drive garage door opener, and everything was working fine till recently. The problem is the slack on the chain is so great now that as the door opens the chain hits the top of the door and then the opener stops. How do I get the chain tighter or less slack so the door can open properly??
Answer:
I would doubt this is a matter of simply tightening the chain. The garage door opener chain will not stretch all of a sudden. There has to be some other reason that the chain got that loose. The housing holding the track could be broken, a gear may be breaking off the shaft, or the bushing the sprocket shaft goes through may be severely worn, or if your opener is half chain & half cable the cable is probably fraying & about ready to break. If you look close enough the actual problem should be rather easy to find.
