Automatic Garage Door Opener Problem

Question:
I have a 2.5 year old Chamberlain garage door opener. Yesterday, both remote controls stopped working. The opener still works with the hard-wired switch and the remote keypad. Thus, the opener still functions and the receiver still works. Also, the indicator lights on the remote controls still come on when the buttons are pressed. However, no matter how close to the receiver the remotes are activated, the opener does not respond? Have both remotes' batteries simultaneously gone bad? Where do I begin to troubleshoot this problem? Also, where can I purchase the small, non-standard, cylindrical 12V batteries that are required by the Chamberlain remote controls? I do not have the manual for this opener so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
The problem IS the receiver. The hardwired button bypasses the receiver and connects to the relay that starts the motor. I cannot help you with the Chamberlain brand name (I have never heard of them), so you are on your own. I suspect that it might be another brand with the Chamberlain name on it. You could try looking in the Yellow Pages under "Garage Door Openers"...The remote units transmit a signal to the receiver which puts a ground at the same point the hard-wired switch does, so apparently the problem IS the receiver. I am not familiar with the Chamberlain brand, but if it is like the Stanley, check under the cover of one of your remotes and record the setting of the dip switches, then compare these settings to those on the opener. It may be that some object brushed against the switches and changed your code. Other openers require that you switch the opener into a "learn mode" and then push the button on your remote.
