Garage Door Opener Won't Stay Adjusted

I have two garage door openers - 1988 vintage. One of them hasn't needed any adjustment in the last 18 years. Works perfectly every time. The other one is very weather sensitive. When the weather is warm, the door comes down too far and bounces back up. When the weather is cold, it doesn't quite come down all the way - which is very convenient for mice looking for a warm place to camp out. This is a difference of over an inch, so just adjusting the sensitivity won't do the trick. The result is I have to change the down limit very frequently. Is there anything I can do to deal with this problem. It can't be an inherent defect in these openers because the other opener right next to it - same make and model - does just fine.

Answer:
Sounds like the counterbalance spring on the door itself. Needs to be adjusted. Difficult to do, may need to get an overhead door service firm to do it. Most have a lock bushing that needs to be turned with a spanner wrench to add or take away counterbalance pressure. If you don't know what you are doing you could loose it when you loosen the lock bushing.
