Garage Door Opener - How To Lock?

Question:
I have a remotely controlled door opener fitted to my garage door. When the door is closed, the garage empty and I'm not there, the door is held 'locked' by the closer mechanism - not very secure. The door is intended to be locked by a mechanical system that consists of a handle and key system mounted in the lower center of the door. Garage door troubleshooting was my only hope. of fixing this door. This system moves two rods, connected to the handle, into and out of two hasps mounted on the door frame. Much more secure and comforting. Of course if I lock the door with this system, I can't use the remote controller system. I wonder, has anyone seen an arrangement for operating the original mechanical lock system AND the remote control. Ideally using an automatic servo system controlled by the garage door opener. Thus the door will beclosed and locked while I am away from the house. Any comments and help would be much appreciated.

Answer:
Almost all garage doors are made like this with the lock, when you have a automatic garage door opener then someone can not just walk up to the door and pull it up. On my door i have the screw drive for the door to be opened someone would have to be inside it and then turn the screw about 200 times???? sounds silly, but the door is locked and will stay locked. what i did with my garage door handle is take it off and turned it to look like it was in the locked position as someone years ago pulled on it, it had a plastic handle, they must have thought the door was available to just pull up as the handle indicated it was unlocked. the servo thing is not needed and would just be overkill......... it would be like having your front door locked and then saying just to be sure i am going to take a 2 inch thick chain and drill two hole, one in the door and one in the frame and use this chain and a big pad lock to really lock my door.....
