Garage Door Opener Maintenance Tips? & Question.
Our new house has a garage door opener. When you press the button for it to open it does not usually open right away. It usually takes about 4 - 5 tries. Any ideas why? Could the fact that one of the springs is missing have to do with it? Can I get away with not replacing the spring? Also, there is a bit of a crack at the top of the door, so it bends in a "v" shape (1.5") when the door does up. Since then, I have re-enforced the door with a steel bar to prevent it from bending. Now it only bents maybe 3/8". Is there any general maintenance tips for garage door openers? Perhaps a web sight reference to maintenance tips?
Answer:
you have to have the door balanced with two springs, disconnect the opener and see if you can open the door midway and leave it there. will it stay in place? problably not, then it is not balanced on mine if one spring is not pulling enough it will not go up by itself. also when you add the metal to the bottom of the door you have put added weight onto it and the springs might not be rated for this weight, you might also need some stronger springs? and with the v shape, well its telling you that its time for a new door, with the v the whole thing can come down, not through the track, but straight down when it falls apart.
