Sears Craftsman Garage Door Opener



Question:
I have a 1/2 hp craftsman garage door opener. My opener has 3 buttons on it. I use only one to open the garage door. Is it possible to program the other 2 buttons to open something else (the gate to my community for example). I looked in the manual and they only mention programming it for the garage door, but it would be really useful to have the other buttons work for other things. Any help is appreciated,

If it is a modern Craftsman then you should be able to buy a receiver from Sears that will operate from the other button(s). I did this when I bought a new Craftsman -- added one of their receivers to the antique opener in the other garage bay so I could operate the door there from the same control. You should, in theory, be able to operate anything with one of these receivers that can be triggered by a momentary contact closure (probaby 24V, 1/4A or less but you'd need to check their specs to be sure).
