Garage Door Opener Types



Question:
What is the best type of garage door opener? I think they are rated like this (best to worst) screw drive, belt drive and chain drive. Am I right? Which kind do you guys recommend, and any particular brand?

Answer:
I have a new belt drive, my friend has a new screw drive, and my brother's mother-in-law has two slightly older chain drive units. By far, the quietest is my belt drive. The loudest sounds come from the door and its connecting parts, and not the drive. My friend's screw mechanism is quiet, but the limit switches rattle at incredibly loud volumes. If this rattling could be stopped, his system might be as quiet as mine. The chain drives are simply loud.
