Garage Door Opener Won't Open
I had a lightning storm pass through a few days ago and I'm guessing it zapped my garage door opener. All the sudden after the lightning strike, the garage door opener tried to close the garage door even though it was already closed. This caused the garage door to buckle. I quickly pushed the button to reverse the garage door. It went to the open position, started to close for about 2 feet, went back to the open position and quit. It had a bad smell and now it only clicks when I push the opener. Does this sound like it's fried by lightning? Would it be cheaper to replace just the motor or buy a whole new garage door opener? Is there a way I can test the motor?
Answer:
The least expensive route starts with a phone call to your homeowners insurance agent, to see if you're covered for lightning damage to the garage door opener. If you are, then you call a garage door company and tell them "It's broke. Fix it."
