Old Genie Garage Door Opener
I recently purchased a 25-year old home which had a Genie garage door opener installed. The opener works fine, but the light doesn't come on when the door is opened and I hate driving into a dark garage at night. (I've changed out the bulb twice and both bulbs were later used in lamps in the house, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with vibration affecting the filament.) Also, the door does not reverse itself when it strikes an object, which is a concern. What should I be looking at to get the light to come on when the door is opened and how can I find out if it has a reverse mechanism? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new opener? It is hard to tell without knowing the model, but many of the old Genies had a clutch adjustment (a knob on the side away from the door as I remember) this clutch, as I recall controls the reverse. The new ones are different. I would guess the light problem may be a switch or adjustment or relay. I believe you could set them to go off at different times or not go on at all. You may want to look around. Check for a model number and maybe someone with a book will be able to help. reverse i light garag
