Garage Door Opener Concern
I have a detached 2 car garage with a genie opener. My concern is that the garage door is the only access I have to get into the garage. If I lose power or for some reason the opener malfunctions while the door is closed,( the release for manual operation is on the track inside the garage),how would I get in? I'm thinking that maybe a door or window has to be installed just in case. Does anyone have a solution other than a door or window installation?
Answer:
yes there is a key mechanism that you put on the garage door(sears sells them, as well as other garage door places..). you attach the pull rope from the release on the carriage or trolley, cant remember what they call it, the plastic thing that travels the length of the garage door openeer and has a rope with a handle on the end of it.... insead of a handle you have the rope, its a little longer and attached to the key mechanism on the top of the door... if you have a power failure or the door does not open you take out your key and put it into the key mechansm on the top of the door and unluck it, you then can pull the rope out to the outside and it is just like pulling the release from the inside(what you have now with the handle on the end of the rope....) hope this helps.
