Bouncy Garage Door Opener

Question:
I have a Craftsman garage door opener with a Martin steel door. I have a problem when the door is closing. When it is about two feet from the bottom, it will often reverse itself and start up again. When I watch the opener from inside the garage, I see the J-bracket connected to the door push up the T-rail for the opener when it is in this position. Evidently, it puts enough force on the opener to make it think it's stuck and it reverses itself. I've had some luck in tightening the chain the solve this problem, although it still happens with a tight chain, just not as regularly. Any ideas on how to make this problem go away?

Answer:
Make sure that your opener is anchored securely to the header to take any play out of the opener itself. If there is any play in the opener, it will start the bouncing action which is then amplified by the springyness in the door and then that bounce can 'jamb' the door against the casing which caused the door to stop making the opener think that the door is stuck and if i continue this sentence any longer, my English teacher will flunk me, 45 years after the fact. Good luck.
