My Garage Door Opener Has A Personality Disorder
My garage door opener (about 8 years or so old) has been giving me problems from day one. This is a Sears Model (I don't know the model# although I can find it). I have to press my remote control several times in various directions before the opener starts to respond. This is driving me nuts I have tried chaning the batteries - no luck there. Is there a way I can change the frequency or something on the garage door opener? I opened the remote control, and noticed that it has a bunch of dip switches - but I think those are to select my code/id. Any comments will be helpful.
Answer:
The switches are to change the code for the opener and I would try it. Just reset the switches to any position then change the ones on the back of the opener to match. Since it is eight years old it should have the switches on the opener also. The newer Sears have switches in the remote and a button on the opener to automatically set the code on the opener. You press the button on the back of the opener then choose the remote button that you want to open the door. When you press the remote button the opener catches the code automatically. The newest Sears are similar except that there are no switches at all it is completely automatic.\ You might make sure that the wire that hangs out of the opener is not tore off or something. There should be a gray wire hanging out of the opener about a foot long. It is the anntena.
