Keypad For Garage Door Opener
I have an electric garage door opener (Lynx 455) with remote control and an inside push botton for open/close. I'd like to put a key pad on the outside so I can lock the side mandoor (to keep the bike thieves out) but make it easy for the kids to get in and out without compromising security. Is it as simple as buying a keypad from Home Depot and wiring it in the same as I would an additional push botton? Any suggestions on make and/or model?
Answer:
As someone else mentioned, a hardwired keypad can be a security hazard. There are ways to minimize the risk, but it's best to go with a wireless keypad. That said "Clicker" makes one that's compatible with most makes. We use one with our Stanley opener and it works well. It's about $40 at the borg.
