Misbehaving Garage Door Opener
During a recent exchange in this group, someone suggested that the reason the inquirer was having troubles getting his remote controller to activate the garage door opener motor was due an improperly tuned opener. I have a Stanley door opener and the remote will open the door from a good distance. But the other unit, a Blue Max, is the problem. You have nearly be at the garage door for it to open when you click the remote. The question is: how does one tune the door opener to correct Blue Max's problem? Is it a question of finding the right combination of mini-swtches? Your thoughts ont his matter greatly appreciated. Best.
Answer:
I am not quite sure if you mean you have two garage doors and one is not operating properly or the Blue Max is just a second hand unit? I assume that you mean a second hand unit doesn't work properly. It should not work at all if the switches are set improperly. The tuning is done via a variable capacitor trimmer (probably). There will probably be a trimmer inside the hand unit (don't touch the one in the reciever). Position yourself at a reasonable distance and use a plastic tool to adjust it until the door operates while holding the button down. The door will respond at increasing distances as you approach the optimal setting. NOTE: mark the origianl position first in case this has no effect! This assumes there is an adjustment - if there is none, you may have an actual electronic failure, bad connections, etc.
