Keypad For Garage Door Opener
I have an electric garage door opener (Lynx 455) with remote control and an inside push botton for open/close. I'd like to put a key pad on the outside so I can lock the side mandoor (to keep the bike thieves out) but make it easy for the kids to get in and out without compromising security. Is it as simple as buying a keypad from Home Depot and wiring it in the same as I would an additional push botton? Any suggestions on make and/or model?
Answer:
No that is not how they work. The Genie I have has the wires from each number going inside,(13 wires, one is a common) then they go into the modular that is programmed for the code. There is no way to determine the code or to fool it by taking it apart from the outside. Putting it is was a five minute job, figuring out how to program it took a little longer.
