Garage Door Opener Question (Genie)

Question:
I read these groups all the time but rarely post. Its a great resource. My question is about the remote for our Genie garage door opener. We have a single opener and two remotes. We moved into the house about a year ago and noticed that we had to be right in front of the garage door for either remote to work. Somewhere along the line I replaced the batteries in the remotes but that made no difference. At our previous house we could operate our Chamberlain openers from the street. The opener is probably between five and 10 years old and the remotes are the key fob types (which I don't like, I prefer our old clip-to-the-visor Chamberlain remotes). Searching dejanews, I see that a probable cause is that the opener is not tuned quite right and that there should be a tuning pot in it somewhere. Has anyone done this with a Genie? How do I access the pot and what is the procedure once I find it? While I'm here I'll say that I was optimistic that the Genie would be quieter than the Chamberlain's but there is no noticable difference. I did have to sometimes adjust for a droopy chain on the Chamberlains but, other than that, I can't say that there is much of a difference between the two (though one of the Chamberlain's would sometimes activate during thunder storms).

Answer:
I never said that I wanted to operate the door when I could not see it. Besides the safety issue, it is necessary to see the door to know that it opened/closed. I just wanted to be able to operate the door from about 75 feet (to open it, I normally close it as soon as the car is out). As it was, I had to be immediatly in front of the door (within a few feet) for the remote to work. Last night I took a closer look at the unit (for the first time). I found that the six inch (about) black antenna wire was tucked most of the way into the metal enclosure. I extracted it and pulled it down below the plastic lamp cover such that about five inches are visible below the lamp cover and this solved the problem. I can now operate it from near the end of the driveway (well withing view of the door).
