Garage Door Opener Doesn't Open Unless I Hold Down The Button On Keypad.

Question:
Hi. I recently had my '84 garage door opener replaced b/c it was noisy and because it would only open slightly when using the remote control. And, to fully open it, I had to crawl under the garage door and use the keypad..mind you, not just punching the button but hold it down until the garage door was fully up. Well, I got a new Genie installed two weeks ago. It *worked* great but now, I've got the same problem! The remote will only lift the door about 2 inches then it stops...even if I hold the open button down. The wall mounted controller opens the door but only if I hold the button down until the door is open. If I simply press the button (like on the remote) it only goes up 2 inches. Any ideas? Help! New garage door opener but same problem! Argh.

Answer:
Release the arm on the and manually open the door.... or try to. If you can't open it, or have a difficult time opening it, the electric door opener is going to stop to prevent burning out the motor and/or prevent damage to operating parts, the door, and whatever the door may be hung up on. e.g. child, car bumper..... The door is balanced properly when it will hold its open position at about 3 feet. Adjust springs as necessary. Reconnect opener and adjust the up force/down force and auto reverse according to manufacturers specifications.
