Garage Door Opener - Poor Range
I just replaced my girlfriend's old Sears Craftsman garage door opener with a new one (Same basic unit just newer and not broken). Everything went relatively smoothly, but the range on the remote is ridiculous - I can barely get out of the garage. The new opener is hanging from the same exact bracket that the old one used to and has the same little 6 or 7 inch antenae hanging straight down just like the old one (and per the instructions). The old unit would pick up the signal just fine. Is it possible we have a bad unit?? I tried attaching a 20 foot section of wire to the antenae and running it to the front of the garage (no difference). The old remotes had dipswitches, whereas the new one is programmed from the garage door opener (you know the drill - hold down the transmitter button, while depressing the green button on the back of the opener). ANY Help would be greatly appreciated!!
Answer:
Try the obvious first, make sure you have a good battery (get one with the built in tester and make sure it says GOOD).....if the battery is good, then the remote might be defective or the receiver....if you have (or can find) another remote, try it...if not, back to where you bought it.... my genie screw drive opener i can open from 2 houses away !!! (when the battery is new) range decreases as battery wears out.....
