Stanley Garage Door Opener Problem
When I press on the wall button or the remote opener to my Stanley garage door opener (model 1805.51), it operates for less than one second then stops. The problem continues even if I disengage the door from the chains, so I know it's not caused by the door being off-balance. Each time I press it, the chain travels about 2 inches. So I was able to press the buttons many times to get the door to go up or down completely. (Yes, it takes a while. :-) But tonight it's stucked at the "top" position. I press once, the chain moves down 2 inches. I press again, it goes back up 2 inches. Any suggestions?
Answer:
Unfortunately, Stanley sold it's garage door opener business to another company, that went bankrupt. (Whistler Corporation.) However, there are web sites where you can still get some parts for the older Stanley garage door openers. Here's a couple that I know of: http://www.stanley-garage-opener.com http://www.bearcatco.com/ You might try emailing either one with your problem and see what they have to say. I did buy from "bearcatco", when my old Stanley opener needed a new capacitor. My problem was different from yours; my opener would only hum.
