Garage Door Opener, Chain, Screw Or Belt Drive ?
I am looking to buy a garage door opener and seeking advices on which brand and which type of chain, screw or belt drive to get. I have a 16 feet wide aluminum (2 cars) garage door. Would it possible to hang the garage door opener on the side (on the ceiling) of the garage door instead right in the middle (ceiling) on the garage door ? Does anyone know of any disadvantages or advantages of the chain, screw or belt drive garage door openers. What features to look for. Which brand name is the best one to get. I was thinking of the Stanley brand. What do you think about Stanley brand ? What is the maximum horsepower in a garage door opener that I can buy.
Answer:
I've installed both screw and chain type openers and like the screw type. The screw openers are quieter and easy to install. Hanging the opener to the side might cause the door to bind. Unless the opener can not be centered I would avoid this type instalation.
