Two Hose Portable Air Conditioner Question?

Question:
I have a Danby Products portable air conditioner with both an in-take and exhaust hose. Is it necessary that the in-take be attached? I understand that it can be great to have a fresh air option, but when the temperature outside is 95, it seems silly to bring it inside the room.

Answer:
Yes you can recirculate the existing air without using fresh air. The air will become stale after a couple of hours and the hook up the intake for a hour or so. Should work just fine as long as your not adding a lot of pollutants into the air. The intake hose brings air into the "condenser" area to cool the condenser coil. If this hose is not connected, you are sucking cooled air from the room through the condenser and blowing it outdoors. In turn, unconditioned air is drawn into the room to make up for the air bring exhausted. This would be counter productive in my estimation.
