Everstar 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Isn't Producing Water. What Is Wrong?

Question:
We have had the Everstar 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner for about 2 years. We usually have to wake up in the middle of the night to empty the water out of it and now it isn't producing ANY water. It feels like it is over heating and not producing the cold air it has in the past. It was a lot of money and I hope I don't have to get it fixed. Please Help... It's hot!!!

Answer:
I hope this helps, it's from http://www.apwagner.com 's repair center, under maintenance tips for air conditioners. Clean the coils once a season or more. Remove the cover and use a soft brush, vacuum, or compressed air to clean them. If you can let the unit sit for a few days to dry, you may want to consider hosing it down. However, it is imperative to let the unit dry completely before plugging it back in. Sometimes a thorough cleaning can get a unit that was running warm to run cool again. The coils need to be clean for proper heat transfer. do you hear a clicking noise when you turn the unit on. turn the thermostat all the way on. if no cold air (that's what you need that produces the water) then you may need the units gas replaced because you have a leak. most air conditioning units are war rented against leaking for 5 years. check your warranty and then find out where you should take the unit to be fixed under the warranty. it's the warm air flowing past the cold fins that removed the moisture from the air. (humidity) no cold air the humidity stays in the air. the whole sealed unit is usually warranted, that includes the compressor. good luck to ya Check filters to make sure they are clean. Make sure you don't have a build up on the coils. If everything is clean, I would suspect you are low on freon. Since it's portable, you may be able to take it to a shop to be re-filled slightly cheaper then haveing it done in your home. Check the outside grill for air flow blockage. You should also check the condensor fins for blockage - looks like a small radiator inside cabinet. Flush with garden hose to remove debris and dirt. Shut off power first! Let it dry and then see if it works. Sometimes the water output is related to air humidity.
