Is There Any Kind Of Portable Air Conditioner For You Car?

Question:
My air went out of my jeep and I am wondering if I can buy a device to take its place. I don't really want to spend 900 dollars to get mine fixed.

Answer:
Not really. There are such things as evaporative coolers, which you used to see on old cars that fit on the window and cooled the incoming air. You pretty much had to be moving for them to work. They are also made for recreational vehicles. They sit on the roof and use a portable water tank and an electric fan. Both are big and ugly, but they work, and they work best in low-humidity regions like the southwest. They tend to add moisture to the air as well. Here's a couple of links. http://www.oldplymouths.bigstep.com/gene... http://www.mobilehomestead.com/alt/altpr... Years ago I saw a mini swamp cooler made for your window. Saw in on a volkswagon. Would only work when you are moving though. I wonder how much of your $900 is labor? I know when mine went out the labor was $800 and my AC is easy to get to. Needless to say I replaced my own parts and had a professional do the AC Charge. Also converted from R12 to 134a. Good Luck. I have no clue how the AC looks at a Jeep.
