I'm Shopping For A Portable Air Conditioner. Do They All Have Vent Hoses That Require Window Installation?
I'm shopping for a portable Air conditioner. Do they all have vent hoses that require window installation? Basically I need to know if I can get a portable AC with out the vent hoses.
Answer:
Not possible. Conservation of energy principle says that if you plug it in, your going to get hotter unless you vent to a external space (same reason you cant cool off by opening your refrigerator). AC only creates a heat differential between two spaces. If you don't vent the hot side, it will just remix with the cold side and you'll have heated your space with the electricity you just used. But, if you live in a place that has no humidity so speak of, you can get a humidifier (not steam but the ones that use an internal wick) that will absorb heat, enough to get the water into the air. That may make the room feel a bit cooler but you can't overdo it or you get a sticky hot feeling room that's worse. Good luck. It looked big bulky and possibly heavy: At Frye's Electronics, I saw the kind that you can place on the floor in a room. It's roughly the size of a small dorm refrigerator. It's not cheap. I didn't check to see what happens to the water if any is generated, unless there is a pan that needs periodic emptying that catches it.
