Everstar Portable Air Conditioner Venting Question?

Question:
I have a Everstar portable air conditioner that must be vented out of a window. Well I have casement windows (the kind that crank out) and was wondering if anyone has any ideads of how to construct something to properly vent this air conditioner through the window without having the hot air from outside still able to come inside. If youhave any ideas please let me know, the air conditioner is needed asap, thanks

Answer:
You could have a vent hood (like a dryer vent hood) cut through the wall. Use the same size as your flexible pipe from the A/C. By the way, any of the portables with just one air duct will create a negative pressure in the room and cause outdoor air to come into the building from somewhere. The 2 pipe portable units are more efficient and don't cause this. Plexiglass can be bought a a home store easily enough, and can be cut with a circular saw. Maybe cut a piece of plexiglass for the space around the vent. If very thin plexi would work for you, it cuts with a utility knife. Maybe caulk it into the window opening. The window needs to be removed, and a framework should be constructed to hold the AC in place. I use 2 X 4's. Cover the excess area with plywood. Use screws so you can remove the AC in the winter. get a piece of plexi glass cut so it fits inside the open window, do you have a screen there? use it as a template, cut a hole for the vent fasten to the frame and there you go
