Portable Air Conditioners
I am looking to get a portable air conditioner unit for my house. I've spent a while searching the web, however, I found little non-sales info on how effective and quiet these units are (i.e. can they be in a bedroom at night)? I have found a unit at Lowes which puts out 8,300 BTU for a little under $500. The manufacturer is Royal Sovereign. Also, the windows in my room open in a sliding manner from the side, not top down. Any issues with hose installs for this type? Any info very much appreciated!
Answer:
#1) Any good unit is quiet enough to be in a bedroom #2) Check those stats again .. For $349 i can get an 11,000 btu unit at HD here in Mich #3) How much room you planning to cool with 8300 ? make sure its enough .. nothing like spending the money putting it in and finding out its not enough #4) Make sure you have the electricity for it .. anything over 6000 btu i recommend it be running on its own 15amp circuit, anything over 12000 i recommend be on its own 20 amp. If you take that 8300btu unit and plut it into a circuit that say has your tv on it .. pop goes the CB (if your lucky, if not pop goes the tv :)Eventually someone will realize the majority of the home, at least a large amount, had sideways opening windows when they manufacture either type of AC I think the extra $$$ has something to do with the fact that it is the hottest part of summer. I am sure off-season would net me one for less.
