Air Conditioner Install With Security Bars?
Are there air conditioners that are slim enough to fit between the window and the security bars? I have about 4 inches of room. If so, where do I find them?

If depth, who determines where the window should be anyhow, them or you? Don't let them push you around. In an apartment, and here too, first build a wooden shelf that you can nail to the outside window sill**, with nails at an angle, 2 opposing angles so they won't be pulled out by the weight (leave a bit showing if youwill want to take them out later) and make the shelf big enough and strong enough that you can put more than average of the ac outside the window. Move the wings closer to you to be at window distance, or build your own wings, or build an add-on to their wings that meets your window frame. The accordian wings aren't so good anyhow. If you don't have a shelf and you make one little mistake, I could have dropped my AC from my 5th story window. With the shelf practically no risk of hitting anyone. Made a shelf off the kitchen window for a charcoal grill. Used it for 8 years, only broke the windown once, when I closed it and the heat of the lighter fluid cracked the window. BTW, can you move your bars further away from the window. I had to move mine just to slide open the basement window more than half way. Previous owner didn't plan ahead.
