Tent Air Conditoners
I realize a tent would not hold cool air very long but I was wondering if there was such a thing.
Answer:
I have never heard of one. There are tent heaters available but have never heard of a tent cooler. Any cooler even if it existed would its effect almost as soon as its turned off. Ive seen some decent battery powered fans. Probably the best you will get. The best thing to do is to pitch your tent so that if there are any breezes they can blow freely through the tent if you have hte windows and doors open. If you have flexibility in the campsite and there are trees, select your location so that your area is shady during the times of the day that you will be in it. Only other word I have on this subject is Winnabego. Yes, the military uses tent coolers. They are basically militarized versions of Trane's packaged "mobile home air conditioners". They are readily available at army surplus stores. Unless you happen to be camping with an extra truck to tow the air conditioner, it's not really something to consider. There are a lot of portable AC's now for apartments. I suppose you could use one in a tent if you have 120V power. Here's some: http://www.compactappliance.com/xq/J...le%20Air%3EAd1 Note that you need a way to get the hot air out of the tent, so you'll need some kind of flex pipe or perhaps back the thing against a screen window. This hardly seems like camping, but perhaps it will work. If enough people get the same idea, I think tent sites with power are going to start costing way more.
