Portable Room Air Conditioners In A PV System...
I just ran across a web site that features Portable room Air Conditioners... they use about 900 watts and create about 8000 btu's of cooling.... The unit can be rolled around from room to room.... http://www.spotfree.net/aircon.html I wonder if anyone has any experience with small, room Air Conditioners... and how well do they stand up in a home PV system...
Answer:
The Delonghi have proven to the be best mobile air con units, so suggest you seek them out as well to compare. These mobile units are limited and can be overcome on a really hot day. They are only suitable for limited size rooms, and it is important that the room size is within limits of the portable air-conditioner. 8000 btu(per hour presumably) is about 2.3 kW, which is 2.55 COP, but do you have to take off the 900 watts since that must be converted to heat I assume. I don't live in an area where air conditioning is considered. To use air conditioning you have to keep all the doors and windows closed which seems a bit frustrating when it's a nice day outside. How do you cope with that? Malcolm
