Well I have an old Carrier that has to be over 25 yrs old and still works well. But it sucks electricity down big time. Newer ones are more efficient. . Also have a 10k btu whirlpool thats 11 yrs old works great. My suggestion is to check out archive issues of Consumer Reports at your local library. The advice and ratings are independent from being partial because the magazine does not accept advertising. You can then shop based on make/model with an internet service like mysimon.com, bottomdollar.com, froogle.com, and/or pricegrabber.com. Don't base your decision on pricing alone... check out the sellers carefully.
