I Need Some Help With Portable Air Conditioners?

Question:
I a portable AC a few years ago, it was the one where you put the hose in the window. But after a few summers it stopped working properly. So I was wondering is there a way that you can use the kind that comes with the hose, but not use the hose? I want the same effect as I would with the hose, but I can't use the bracket and screws to hold the window down on my window.

Answer:
You need some place for the condensation to drip. Some have a bucket drawer that shuts off the AC when it's full of water then you empty the water and restart. Drill a hole in the wall and caulk it. You can also connect to some plumbing drain and let gravity take over. This is one of those units that looks like a robot? You really need to have the hose outside as that's where the hot air/humidity exhausts. Will another window work better or can you put a hole in the wall and install a dryer vent flapper? You need the hose. Air conditioners only move the heat around. In other words the heat is removed from the air and dumped outside by the hose. No hose and you just dump the heat back into the room.
