Do Portable Air Conditioners Exist Without Hoses Or Draining Of Water?
I have checked the retail stores (Wal-mart, Target, Lowe's, Home Depo). All of those A/Cs require hosed out the window and drainage.
Answer:
They do not exist. The condensers have to be cooled so somehow the hot air has to be exhausted out the window. Another by product of A/C is the condensation. The water from this must drain somewhere! Aloha... micky9fingers some words about swamp coolers. While they may work just ok in EXTREMELY dry climates, they don't work at all in even just slightly humid climates. They work by adding moisture to the air which will actually make things worse unless you live in an EXTREMELY dry climate such as AZ or NV. I can tell you for sure they are useless here in Hawaii... Aloha! Have you considered a portable swamp cooler? No hose, no drain and cools an apartment room as efficiently as the window mounted A/C''s. You do fill a tank with water which evaporates and the lower fan setting lasts about 8 hours and can run without water if you sleep longer. Mine cost me $70 five years ago at Home Depot and they do have larger sizes on wheels even and cheaper to run than an A/C according to my power bills. Learned about swamp coolers from mobile home living and rate them better than the A/C's because of no power loss during 100 degree plus Nevada summers. Simple to clean and put away in a closet once a year.
