No! Not at all! They are a pain cause you have to drain them or let them pour into a bucket. I have one and its a pain!!!! Much better with window units. Portable units are fine but they have to exhaust the hot air somewhere, you will need a window or somewhere to let it out. A window unit is probably going to be your best choice and least expensive. You will need a unit that is about 18000 BTUs to cool 864 sq.ft.. If you only have standard 110 volt outlets, like you plug a lamp into, make sure thats what your new unit requires. Some AC units are 220 volt and they wont work in a regular outlet. Choose a window in a central location that has an outlet close by. Try to avoid extenson cords. If an extension cord is required use a heavy cord like a 12 guage cord and dont buy a long one. Keep it as short as possible. If you use an extension cord check to make sure the cord isnt getting warm. This means the AC unit is drawing more power than the cord is rated for. Good Luck.
