Where Can I Find A Portable, Free Standing Air Conditioner?

Question:
I have a workout room that gets extremely hot while working out. I am trying to find a portable air conditioner that does not need a hose to vent out. There are no windows in the room. Any suggestions?

Answer:
Refrigeration (including air conditioning) is the act of moving heat from one place to another. Your refrigerator moves it from inside the cabinet to your kitchen. Likewise, to air condition your workout room, heat will have to be moved somewhere else (like the hose vent that isn't an option for you). Without the ability to move heat out of the space, your only other option is to cool yourself by evaporation. Fans man; fans. Fans blowing on you and fans circulating stuffy air out of room to the rest of your home. Ever fan yourself outside on a 90F day with your hat? Aaaaahhh, that feels good! Well, that was 90F air that induced that sensation when perspiration evaporated from your skin. What you are asking for doesn't exist. All air conditioners need to vent hot air. If you have a window unit it vents directly outside. If you buy a free standing unit it still must be vented via a tube. Otherwise it will be blowing cold air out one side and hot air out the other and you will get no net benefit. Your only option is a bucket of ice placed in front of a fan.
