Is It Safe To Use An Old Portable Air Conditioner?
We've got an old portable air conditioner out in the garage that hasn't been used for approx 4 years. Every summer I debate on whether to use it or not. Is it safe to use it after all this time? Would it be full of bacteria that I wouldn't want to breathe in?
Answer:
Maybe Clean it by buying a new filter and empty the drip pan like a refrigerator I only use fans so I don't really know for sure, sorry I have been in the same situation, have a 10,000btu window air conditioner. Have used it for 17 years, but some years don,t use it at all. when we do put in window and turn on we open all windows and get a good breeze coming in to circulate some fresh air in house, never had any problems with bacteria from unit setting a long time Well there are two issues to consider, first is energy consumption. I will guess that the unit will not be in energy efficient one. Secondly, there is likely mold in the unit which will contaminate the air in the room and possibly the house.
