Why Add Water To A Portable Air Conditioner?
Why do you have to add water to a portable air conditioner? My instruction manual says about 1.5 quarts, but it doesn't say why, or if you ever have to add more. Does it disappear? Do you have to fill it up regularly? One thing also it says you have to empty water from the bottom as it accumulates - I live in a very dry climate and have never once had to empty the water in the past 2 months. Is this normal? The unit works ok, it cools fine, but it's not that great. Do I need to add more water regularly?

Sounds like an evaporative cooler. Needs water which through evaporation cools the air and uses up the water thereby. ~ When used on the roof they are called swamp coolers (in California) Because your cooler is a evaporative cooler...Yes you need to add water regularly otherwise it won't work... It uses the water in the cooling process...
